Eliseth is what I'll be wearing a lot this winter. It's warm and cosy and perfect to wear when working at your desk or knitting in the evening. The shoulderwarmer is worked bottom-up, in the round and starts with a very simple yet attractive lace pattern, then some Stockinette Stitch followed by a cowl in 2/2 rib.

Materials
Yarn: 430 [487, 558, 630, 742, 790] yds/395 [446, 512, 578, 681, 725] m aran weight yarn. Sample shown in Alpaca Coton from Rowan.
Needles: 1 US 6/4.5 mm circular of length 24 in / 60 cm or 30 in/ 80 cm for the body and 16 in/40 cm, or double pointed needles for the neck.
Stitch markers.

Gauge
17 sts and 24 rows = 4 in /10 cm in pattern stitch, after light blocking.

Eliseth is wat ik deze winter heel veel ga dragen. De schouderwarmer is warm en zacht en zit heerlijk tijdens het werken aan de computer of 's avonds bij het breien op de bank. De schouderwarmer wordt rondgebreid, van beneden naar boven.

Materialen
Garen: 425 [475, 540, 625, 700, 775] m worsted gewicht garen. Voorbeeld is gemaakt in Alpaca Cotton van Rowan. (135m/50gr)
Naalden: 4.5 mm rondbreinaald met een lengte van 60 cm of 80 cm voor de body en rondbreinaald met een lengte van 40 cm, of naalden zonder knop voor de nek.

17 st en 24 rijen = 10 cm in kantpatroon na licht opspannen.

September Shrug

Well everything is unpacked and counted after Rotterdam, it was more fun then last year, perhaps that also had something to do with the hectic time last year. This year I didn't see anyone grumpy, except for some men who were carrying lots of heavy bags :)
One of the new stuff I brought with me to Rotterdam was the September Shrug, I published that one 2 years ago and got a lot of requests to translate it into Dutch, it took a while but when my old version wasn't suitable for wearing I wanted a new one :) So I made a new version in Rowan's Creative Focus Worsted, re-wrote the pattern, had it tech-edited again (you don't want to know how much new mistakes you can enter in a perfectly good pattern by just copy-paste) did alittle photoshoot in front of our house and finally translated it into Dutch

Alles is geteld en weer opgeborgen in de kasten na Rotterdam. Dit jaar was het gezelliger dan vorig jaar, misschien ook wel omdat we in een hectische periode zaten vorig jaar. Maar dit jaar heb ik bijna niemand sjacherijnig rond zien lopen, op een paar mannen na die met hele zware tassen aan het sjouwen waren :)
Een van de nieuwe dingen die ik had meegenomen naar Rotterdam was een nieuwe versie van September Shrug, 2 jaar geleden had ik die gepubliceerd en kreeg sinsdien veel aanvragen om 'm te vertalen naar het Nederlands wat er eigenlijkmaar niet van kwam. Totdat versie 1 zo versleten wasdatikhet met goed fatsoen niet meer aan kon trekken en ik een nieuwe wilde :) De nieuwe versie heb ik gemaakt in Creative Focus Worsted van Rowan en heb het patroon herschreven, opnieuw laten tech-editen (je wilt niet weten hoeveel fouten je kunt toevoegen in een kloppend patroon door alleen te copy-pasten), een kleine fotoshoot voor ons huis en uiteindelijk vertaald naar het Nederlands.

We (anne and I) spend the whole day getting ready for 3 days show in Rotterdam. Can I just say I love my new car ;)

Anne en ik zijn de hele dag bezig geweest met alles klaarzetten voor 3 dagen handwerkbeurs. En mag ik zeggen dat ik superblij ben met mijn nieuwe auto, er gaat zoooooveel in ;)

A few weeks ago I got a question if I was planning on selling my jewelry kits in black. I was planning that, though not so soon, but since the question was asked I dyed up some black silk, searched for some nice silver coloured beads and just couldn't resist playing with it.... :) I seldom wear my handknits as I need them for trunk shows but this is one design I find myself wearing a lot and I already made it in several colours and I just want more :)

I can finally show you one of the secret projects I've been working on. Jon from EasyKnits has a SushiShawl Club every few months and for the first time he invited another designer to design a shawl for the club, and I'm very honoured that he choose me :) It was for me the first time to knit with a sock blanket and it did take a minute to get used to it. As you unravel the yarn from the blanket it keeps jumping back into curly loops, but I discovered there was an easy solution, I always tension the working yarn by wrapping it around my ring finger and that was sufficient to get an even tension in my knitting.
When I first opened the package with the yarn inside I was stunned by the bright colours and immediatly had a picture in my head on how I wanted the photography to be done. Luckaly I've a husband who not only understand what I mean, he's also very patient in letting me turn down lots of places, well to be honest.....we drove 4 days before we found this spot by accident. It was a very small piece of grass in front of WW1 monument surrounded by a vineyard, a road and the large water tank filled with marigold. The colours of the surrounding matched perfect with the colours of the shawl. There was only one problem..... the spot was fenced off by some red and white tape..... We did drove for a while and the decided we weren't going to find a better spot. So we parkedthe car, had the children on the look-out, andtook 250+ pictures in 5 minutes. Sure that must be enough to have a few good ones :) Well?

Eindelijk kan ik jullie laten zien aan welk geheim project ik heb gewerkt. Jon van EasyKnits heeft iedere paar maanden een Sushi Shawl Club daar verft hij dan speciaal het garen bij en ontwerpt zelf het patroon. Toen hij mij vroeg om een shawl voor zijn club te ontwerpen was ik natuurlijk wel vereerd, aangezien ik de eerst gast designer ben voor zijn club :)Het wasvoor mij de eerste keer dat ik met een sokkendeken moest breien en het duurde even voor dat dat lekker ging. De bedoeling is dat je direct vanaf de deken breiet en het garen bleef maar terugschieten in lusjes, uiteindelijkwas er een hele makkelijke oplossing voor. Ik houd altijd de spanning op de werkdraad door de draad een keer om mijn ringvinger te slaan en dat bleek ook hier gewoon te werken.Ik kreeg heel mooi regelmatig werk.
Toen ik het pakketje met de sokkendeken kreeg was ik onder de indruk van de felle kleuren en meteen schoot er een beeld door mijn hoofd hoe ik de foto's gemaakt wilde hebben. Gelukkig heb ik een man dieheel geduldigmet meis en die me rustig een heel hoop plaatsen af laat keuren...... Enfin we hebben 4 dagen door frankrijk gereden voor we door toeval op dit plekje uitkwamen. een klein stukje gras voor een WW1 monument omringd door een wijgaard, een weg en een grote waterbak met pomp gevuld met afrikaantjes. Deze kleuren kwamen perfect overeen met de kleuren van de shawl. Een klein probleem....het was afgezet met rood-wit lint.....
Uit eindelijk na nog wat rond te hebben gereden, deknoop doorgehakt en terug gereden. Auto geparkeerd, kinderen op de uitkijk en in 5 minuten tijd 250 foto's genomen, onder het mom, daar zal vast wel een goede tussen zitten :) En?

Dag van de wol

I had such a fun day yesterday at Dag van de wol. The show was held in a barn at a horse farm. It wasn't really busy what I thought was fine, cause that ment I had time to chat with customers and discuss all kind of stuff. From best methode of dyeing to true lace knitting. I also showed some of you what I'm working on (I'll show all of you soon) ;)

Gisteren was de dag van de wol en het was een heerlijke dag. De dag van de wol wordt gehouden in een grote schuur van een paardemelkerij, het was niet heeeeel erg druk, maar lekker verspreid over de dag. Wat fijn was omdat ik hierdoor meer tijd had om te kletsen met klanten, van de beste methodes om te verven tot het breien van true lace. Ook heb ik een aantal van jullie kunnen vertellen waar ik mee bezig ben (binnekort meer daarover) ;)

Knit en Spin-in

Al maanden zijn Agnes en ik het brainstormen over een mogelijkheid om met onze “virtuele” winkels het land in te gaan. Feit blijft namelijk dat nog niet iedereen even comfortabel is met het bestellen via het internet, en eigenlijk nog belangrijker, men wil graag “voelen/bekijken” voor er gekocht word!

Natuurlijk zijn er diverse beurzen & markten waar we naar toe gaan. Maar we willen meer! We willen het gevoel creëren van een breiwinkel op de hoek, mét de mogelijkheid om je breiwerk of spinnewiel mee te nemen en een aantal uurtjes door te brengen in het gezelschap van gelijkgestemden! Dus zijn we op zoek naar een aantal locaties in Nederland (voorlopig de regio’s Noord-Brabant, Noord-Limburg en Gelderland) waar we een aantal keren per jaar onze “winkel” kunnen opzetten.

Het wensenlijstje:

het moet ruimte bieden aan ca. 20-25 personen (incl. plek voor een aantal spinnewielen)
inloop mogelijk (wanneer het jou uitkomt!)
mogelijkheid om koffie/thee te schenken
tafels/plek om onze spullen uit te stallen
gezelligheid!
eventueel mogelijkheid om buiten te zitten als het mooi weer is (een mens mag dromen toch?)
betaalbaar (geldboom is helaas niet aanwezig)
beschikbaar tussen 11.00 en 17.00 uur op zaterdagen
gezelligheid! (of had ik dat al gezegd?)

Wat we bieden:

Knit Nation

Things have been busy after Aalten and if you follow me on twitter you know I've been in London at Knit Nation "working" in the EasyKnits stand and what a fun and busy days we had ;)

Het is erg druk geweest na Aalten en degene die mij volgen op twitter weten dat ik ondertussen nog naar Knit Nation in Londen ben geweest. Ik stond daar in de stand van EasyKnits en wat hebben we een lol gehad ;)

It was so much fun to see lots of old friends and made some new ones ;)

Het was zo leuk om weer oude vrienden te zien en om een paar nieuwe te maken ;)

Balloo part 2

After securing all my stuff
Alles ingepakt voor de nacht

we went to our hotel, which was a very nice suprise. big room and DS and DD1 liked the tv.
Toen naar het hotel, een aangename verrassing, grote kamer en DS en DD1 vonden vooral de tv fijn ;)

Next morning I found this in my bed
De volgende ochtend vond ik dit in mijn bed.

Unfortunatly all weather forecast were wrong, it rained all day with lots of wind and no sunshine at all. So this is how my living room looks like at the moment
Helaas hadden alle weersvoorspellingen het fout, veel regen, veel wind en geen zon. Dus zo ziet mijn woonkamer eruit op het moment

Yarn is drying for next weekend in Aalten
Garen ligt te drogen voor volgend weekend in Aalten (hiep, hiep hoera dan sta ik in de woltent = overdekt ;))

So glad I make the effort to put all my patterns and kits in sealable plastic sleeves, I can just dry them with a towel and they're okay ;)
Ik ben zo blij dat ik de moeite neem om al mijn patronen in plastic seal zakjes te doen, alleen afdrogen met een theedoek en je ziet er niks meer van.

doing laundry, adding stuff to website, taking pictures of yarn and samples, driving around the kids, food shopping and making diner before I have topick up DD1 at her practice.... A very normal wednesday and I found time to play with dye and silk :)

Verven tussen de bedrijven door. Een hele normale woensdag is: de was doen, producten toevoegen aan de website, het fotograferen van garens en voorbeelden, taxi spelen voor de kinderen, boodschappen doen en dan het avondeten klaar maken zodat het de oven in kan terwijl ik DD1 weer van haar training ga ophalen..... toch nog ff spelen met zijde en verf ;)

Wow, I've done loads of work these past few days. I updated the shop with more colors of Rowan Kidsilk Haze, added some kits of Alise. And added some more patterns. It's a slow process adding stuff to the website, which probably has more to do with me being to much of a controlfreak/perfectionist :) But I'm getting close to be finally up to date.....yeah. Besides webshop work I also still have alot of patterns to write..... Remember the pictures taken in Tenerife? Here let me refresh your memory....

Wow, ik heb super veel werk verzet de afgelopen dagen. In de webwinkel heb ik nieuwe kleuren van Rowan Kidsilk Haze toegevoegd, net zoals pakketjes van Alise en weer wat patronen toegevoegd. Het is een traag werkje wat waarschijnlijk meer te maken heeft met het feit datikteveeleen controlfreak/perfectionist ben dan met wat anders :) Maar het einde komt eindelijk in zicht dat de webshop up to date is.....joepie :) Maar naast webwinkel werk moet ik nog steeds een hele hoop patronen schrijven, waar ik na Zwolle, gevolgd door Nieuwegein geen tijd voor had.......herinnner je die foto's nog die we op Tenerife genomen hebben? Deze dus.....

Maybe unusal for a control freak, but I can be very chaotic sometimes :) Let me just say that I'm very glad that I found my notes on this tank top again, at least this means I don't have to spend hours on recalculating and counting what the h... I did during the making of it, lol. Besides the tank top, I'm writing the patterns of the silk bracelet and the necklace and boy do they hurt my head in finding logical abbreviations for some strange technics I'm using. These technics will have a photo tutorial in the pattern, but I still need to find the words..... I'm just very happy with having a great tech-editor and I know she will find the words if I screw things up :)

Voor een controlfreak ben ik af en toe zeer chaotisch :) dus ik ben erg blij dat ik mijn aantekeningen van dit topje eindelijk weer terug gevonden heb, dat scheelt toch weer een hoop tijd in het terug berekenen en tellen wat ik ook al weer gedaan had, lol. Buiten het topje ben ik de patronen aan het schrijven voor het zijde armbandje en de halsketting en tjees wat zorgen die ervoor dat ik pijn aan mijn hoofd krijg om een beetje logische afkortingen te vinden voor de speciale technieken die ik gebruik. Nou komen die technieken zowiezo ook in foto's uitgelegd in het patroon, maar dan moet ik nog steeds de goede beschrijvingen schrijven. Gelukkig heb ik een kei van een tech-editor en ik weet dat zij me red als ik er een zooitje van maak :)

Playing with beads and silk

Nothing is more fun then playing with silk and beads. First project is a bracelet knitted in undyed silk thread and some Miyuki 8/0 beads in ivory pearl (color 591) As closure I used 2 magnetic clasps.

Niets is leuker dan spelen met een beetje zijde en wat mooie kraaltjes. Het eerste project is een armband gebreid met ongeverfde zijde en Miyuki kralen maat 8/0 in ivoor parelmoer (kleur 591) als sluiting gebruik ik 2 magneet sluitingen.

Second project is knitted is handdyed purple silk thread and Miyuki 8/0 silverlined purple beads (color 024) also with a magnetic clasp as closure.

Het tweede project is een halsketting gebreid met handgeverfde paarse zijde draad en Miyuki kraaltjes maat 8/0 in zilvergevoerd paars (kleur 024). Ook met een magneet sluiting.

Oops, another month has passed

Oh dear, this last month just flew by without any blogging and also not much twitter activity. Nieuwegein was fantastic, met lots of friendly peeps in my workshops and at my stand. But then Real life kicked in, April is the month of doing taxes, re-apply for special care for DD1 and DD2, lots of long talks with care takers and therapists. Leaving me somewhat drained of energy. The first 2 weeks of May the kids have no school, and it's great to spend some extra time with them and DH. I do have some fun plans for the coming months including more knitting kits and a shawl club..... stay tuned :)

Oh, oh en alweer een maand voorbij gevlogen, zonder te bloggen of veel te twitteren. Nieuwegein was geweldig, heb heel veel leuke mensen ontmoet in mijn workshops en aan mijn stand. Maar dan..... komt mijn andere leven ook nog om de hoek kijken, April is altijd een drukke maand met de BTW aangifte, maar dit is ook de maand waar we de herindicatie voor de Persoons gebonden budgetten moeten aanvragen voor de DD1en DD2, wat zorgt voor heel veel lange gesprekken met begeleiders en therapeuten. Wat er voor zorgt dat ik nergens meer energie voor heb. De eerste 2 weken van mei hebben de kinderen nog vakantie en het is heerlijk om wat extra tijd met ze door te brengen :) Ik ben wel bezig met allerlei leuke nieuwe breipakketjes en met een shawl club voor de komende maanden, dus..... hou de website in de gaten :)

De breidagen in Nieuwegein

It all starts with preparations, packing beads into little bags of 10gr, making the handouts for the workshops and on the morning itself packing my car.

Het begint met de voorbereidingen, kraaltjes verpakken naar 10gr zakjes, de boekjes voorde workshops maken en op de daadwerkelijke morgen de auto inpakken.Then the stand needed to be set-up, difficult to put everything on such a small stand (I normally have a much larger stand but since I would be teaching all days I thought it was big enough for my dear girls Anne and Elske, who as alwasys did agreat job :) Thanks sweeties!!!

Daarna moest natuurlijk de stand opgezet worden, nog best moeilijk om dat allemaal op 1 kraam te krijgen. Normaal heb ikeen grotere stand maaromdat ik alle dagen zou lesgeven toch maar besloten voor 1 stand, groot genoeg voor Anne en Elske die zoals altijd geweldig werk verzet hebben.:) Dank je wel dames!!!Here's how it looked when the doors opened, not to crowded, everyone had time for a little chat, pet some yarns and admire all the beautiful things in the stands.

I did had verylittle time to enjoy all these beautiful things as I was enjoying myself teaching! I had so many sweet and eager to learn students it was a delight to teach them all about (true) lace and reversable cables.

Ik had weinig tijd omte genieten van al dat moois want ik was aan het genieten van het lesgeven aan hele aardige cursisten die geweldig gemotiveerd waren om nieuwe dingen te leren. Het was geweldig om jullie (true) lace en omkeerbare kabels te leren.
But my biggest thanks goes to dear friend Sarah Jane who came to visit me from London and stayed with me for over a week to help me get everything ready for this show. Who kept me on track when I started to design instead of printing patterns.....who made the whole preperation thing feel like a walk in the woods and.... for all the pictures you've taken because I forgot :) Thanks Sweetie and I hope to see you and DH at Knit Nation

Graag toch nog even mijn lieve vriendin Sarah Jane bedanken die speciaal vanuit London gekomen was om mij mee te helpen om alles klaar te krijgen voor de breidagen. Zij zorgde ervoor dat ik niet al te lang afgeleid werd door nieuwe dingen te ontwerpen terwijl ik patronen moest printen en dat de voorbereidingen allemaal voorspoedig verliepen.... So finally..... Today we had time to do a little photoshoot for the bridal mitts I designed for my workshop advanced lace knitting. It's a fun project that only takes 90m /98yds to complete and 92 beads size 8/0. I made the first pair in a cream color. Tonight I'm going to make the blue version (something blue....) The yarn is Merino/Tencel dyed by DutchWoolDiva. The knitting kit will be for sale on my website after the knit and crochet show in Nieuwegein (April 1-2) At the moment the pattern is being edited, the yarn needs to be wound into little cakes, the satin ribbon needs to be meassured and cut and finally the beads need to be repacked into little bags.

Eindelijk vandaag wat tijd om de Bridal Mitts te fotograferen, speciaal ontworpen voor mijn workshop kantbreien voor gevorderden. Het is een leuk klein projectje waarbij allerlei technieken aan bod komen zoals true lace, nupps en kraaltjes inbreien. Het voorbeeld paar heb ik gemaakt in een creme kleur, en vanavond ga ik de blauwe versie maken. Het breipakket is na de brei en haakdagen ook verkrijgbaar in mijn webwinkel. Degene die meedoen aan de workshop kantbreien voor gevorderden krijgen daar het breipakket al bij. Er zijn voor zowel vrijdag als zaterdag nog wat plaatsen vrij.

Caleidescope vest

I just received my complementary issue off Knit Magazine (formerly known as Yarn Forward) with my Design Caleidescope Vest in it :) This was a project I wanted to make for a long time. Well to be honest who doesn't want to knit with Noro Silk Garden Sock. You just keep on knitting wondering what color will be next. The version in Knit is worked with 2 different colors (S258 and S304) alternating between them every other row to get a shorter color repeat. However I also like the long color repeat so I did make one for myself using only 1 color. Though I still need to put the buttons into place.
This was also the design I had the most worries over, not the project itself but whether or not it would arrived in the UK. Note that I didn't mention in the UK on time..... That is something I allready gave up on, postal services are just to unpredictable and rarely do what you pay them for. I send this design on December 12th 2010 and it finally arrived on Jan 25th 2011.....
Well.... I'm just glad it made it on time for the photoshoot ;) Now they only need to spell my name correctly ;)

For the workshop advanced lace knitting I'm making knitting kits. Agnès from Dutch Wool Diva dyed and wound some beautifull Merino/Tencel for me. She did a wonderful job on them too ;)

Voor de workshop kantbreien voor gevorderden ben ik de brepakketjes aan het maken. Agnès van Dutch Wool Diva heeft superzachte Merino /Tencel voor me geverft en in cakes gewonden, en zoals met alles wat ze doet ziet het erg geweldig uit Kijk maar

I'll be attending the knit and crochet show in Nieuwegein on April 1-2, I'll be there with a stand but I'm also teaching and I do have some spots open. The workshop are given in Dutch, I can do a little translation on the spot to explain some stuff but most of it will be in Dutch, sorry.

Audria is a cute little beret perfect for the spring. You don’t need much yarn to make it so you can use one of those precious expensive skeins of yarn for it. The beret is worked in the round from the hem to the crown. The lace pattern is easy enough for working on it at your knitting group.

End of Febuary I'm attending the Handwerkbeurs in Zwolle, beginning of april there will be a new 2-day show in Nieuwegein with only knitting/crochet and spinning and I will be teaching there, this time with workshops planned :) It's very much fun to make a workshop and I'm only in the designing stage for these, cause I wanted to offer 4 brand new workshops. But you can imagine that it takes up lots of time.
My website is another tale without end.... Because I'm now also selling knitting kits I wanted a website which could intergrate my download patterns, yarn, knitting kits and also be bi-langual. I won't bore you with all the details just think of me cursing and throwing things around.... Hopefully I'll get a message from my web designer that I can start listing my products today.
On top of this I have 2 deadlines coming up 1 for Yarn Forward Magazine and 1 for The Knitter, the patterns are almost done writing, but the knitting will be a challenge :) I allready told DH "Next time I submit 5 designs all on 3-3.5mm needles, please shoot me" :) The only thing I find difficult about designing for magazines is that I can't show you anything, so let me introduce you to another design currently in the test knitting and tech-editing fase a lacey beret called Audria
And remember my revenge on DH well that was for this shot (among other things, lol)Next on the list for test knitting/editing will be Aaberknot. So my to-do list for today will be:

Writing pattern and charts
Making preps for testknitting, if you want to test-knit keep an eye on my twitter (Leen002) or facebook (Marleen van der Vorst) account. I always post there as soon as I post on the Free Pattern Testers Group on Ravelry.
And knit, knit, knit.....still need to do 60 rounds almost 15000 sts

Don't think I can manage more today, so I better get to work :)

We're back home.... and the first working day wasn't fun, really need to get back in working mode and perhaps save my docs on my laptop so I can find them.... Searched 30 min to find the beret pattern, still can't find where I put the charts though, but it will be done tomorrow so it can be tested and tech-edited. In the meanwhile, remember the stone I was sitting on when making the pics for the beret? DH told that was the bedt place for a pic: "and it doesn't mather if you get wet" Well I got wet, you can't see it on the pics but I'm only wearing a bikini and a T, so at least I had dry pants in the car. But then I could take revenge, DH wanted some nice pictures of himself and off course I told him that that rock was the best place to take his pic ;)

El Teide

I promised some pics from El Teide, the vulcano of Tenerife. We saw so many lovely and almost un-earth like sceneries. That this was one of the easiest photoshoots cause no mather where you stand the surroundings were beautifull. (except for some very touristy spots) The design is an oldie (2005!!!) The suffering of a knitwear designer

Today the rented car did get delivered, so of we went to see the Teide, the vulcano (oops almost said Vulcan, lol) of Tenerife. The dream of DS and DD1, not as excited as they thought but the landscapes were beautifull. I did bring some new and old designs to do a photoshoot, we only did 2, but boy what a gorgeous pics DH took IMO. You all are of course wondering why the suffering in the title..... Well the things you do for a nice pic.... This was the rock in the sea I wanted to stand on for the shoot

How to get there on heels, silk trousers and shawl..... As you can see here there was a small strip of gravel and pebbles...

And it was a steep hill of course.... Here you see DD1 who's ready to take the behind the scenes pictures, and in the right corner you see me, struggling on heels ;)

Here I'm still convinced everything will go smooth and proud of myself I did make it that far

little photoshoot

This morning we planned to have a car, so we could go and have a nice photoshoot...... But the car renting company had some trouble with broken cars, you think they would inform the hotel but.... nope. We just waited.... and waited. Eventually the hotel called them, hopefully we'll have a car for tomorrow.
The kids are now having a break from their vacation (always difficult if plans don't work out as planned) hopefully they calm down a bit after a play on their Nintendo :)
In the meanwhile DH and I went to see if we could do a littlie photoshoot at the hotel. The first top is made with Rowan Summer Tweed. Originally intended to be a submission, but I liked it more for myself ;)

The second top is made from Rowan Linnen Lempur, which I really like. It's very soft with a great stitch definition and wonderfull drape and elasticity. This one will also be available as knitting kit as soon as I'm done writing the pattern

Some of you who follow me on twitter (I'm also leen002 there) allready know that we're celibrating the new year in Tenerife. We escaped the cold wheather into the everlasting spring of The Canary Islands. After all the snow we weren't sure if our plane would fly as scheduled, but we were assured that it would fly. And so it did.... only 5 hours after schedule.... Ever try that? Waiting for 5 hours with 3 kids? I have to say, they were great, they didn't whine, or got angry. They were allready in holliday mood ;) Here eating breakfast

You can call me old fashioned, but when grading a pattern I still don't use Excel, there is just something about using just pencil, paper and a calculator that I find pleasant. It makes me calm...... It isn't fast but I like to write those numbers down, don't get me wrong I do have a spread sheet I just hate using it for grading :) here are some pictures

And besides all the large sample knitting I need to do I could use a fun little project perfect for those prescious one skeins everyone has lying around in their stash just cause they felt so soft or had a fabulous color :) This yarn has everything: EasyKnits Alpaca/silk in a gorgious semi solid purple. And it knits up beatifull

There is one thing I like when it's so cold outside. Floor heating! And it's perfect for blocking samples that don't need pinning down. Tho I do need to be careful where I put them otherwise she will confiscate and won't give back ;) if you look closely at next picture you can see the beret under my seat

Oh my, it's been a while since my last post. For the last six weeks I've done lots and lots of knitting and I can't show you anything :( Sample 1 and 2 for Yarn Forward Magazine are blocking at the moment. Sample 3 also for Yarn Forward is halfway done. Sample 4 also for Yarn Forward needs to be done from scratch cause I don't have the yarn yet with great thanks to the postal services it's still not delivered and no one knows where my package of gorgious Merino/Bamboo is in the great world of lost packages :( Sample 5 is for The Knitter and is almost done.

Now I need to write the patterns and I'm having some trouble to actually start. I know that if I'm able to start I've no trouble writing them, in fact most times when I'm writing I forget everything around me including eating on time. I always have a timer next to me so I don't forget appointments. But for some reason I have a lot of trouble to get started. And reading on Ravelry doesn't help of course :) But I did found this post of Annie and guess what I'm not the only one having trouble :) You can read it here http://modeknit.com/2010/11/22/queen-midas/

Because I needed a change from all the large projects I was working on and believe me, if you start knitting at 8 AM till it's time for dinner it isn't really that much fun, though I made it more fun to watch all 7 seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer in 4 weeks. :) i needed desperatly something new and fun to knit just for myself. Or rather for DH he earned it :) a nice warm scarf made from gorgious Fibrespates Srumptious Merino Silk DK and the pattern? Well that will be available as soon as I manage to get started on pattern writing ;)

first part handwerkbeurs Rotterdam

Well it all started with a lot of stress..... I ordered some metal shelves to present the yarn and knitting kits and they weren't delivered the day before we had to go and set up...... a lot of phonecalls and e-mails later they promised it would be delivered at 8 of the morning of the set up day.... and pffff they did, unfortunatly it did cost me a night of sleep
One other thing that was that due to personal stuff my friend and sample knitter Anne couldn't make it for all 4 days, we both had looked very much forward to do this together, well at least this show we'll have 1 day :)

Everything fitted perfect in the car and because I had some place left in front DD1 could come along

She worked very hard to make the stand look great and so did Alet and Marian

A very big suprise was it when these to came to visit us

These women are the gymnastic trainer from DD1 and when they heard I brought her with me they picked her up so she and I could spend some time watching the gymnastic teams practice for the World Championships. They offered also to watch DD1 while I set up the booth. Ladies a very big thank you!!

I Knit Weekender

Time for some pictures I promised of my London weekend :) We had fun, not enough sleep and my Twitter account decided to stop working from the moment I arrived in London :( I arrived in London Thursday evening and Jon picked me up at the airport, from there to his place, dropped my bag off, loaded the truck with all the stuff and off we went to set up for the show. Here's Jon posing

back at his place we chatted way too long (and drunk way too much wine) at a very very late souper

The next morning we needed to get up very early to be on time needing a few more hours to make the booth look great, and it did :)

Friday eveving we went out for dinner with friends and we had so much fun, it turns out I speak better English then my friends speak Dutch but I still don't know what the Irish waiter said :)
Saterday was a lot bussier, and we were totally wasted when we got back home at Jon's place.
Sunday Jon and Mr EasyKnits took me to Greenwich parc sight seeing. What a beautiful parc wish we would have something like that here

Vlinder is a perfect shawl for the fall. The shawl is worked in two parts and then grafted together by using Kitchener Stitch. The body is shaped by using carefully placed increases and decreases forming a neckline. This shaping makes sure it will stay on your shoulders.

So I completely forgot to show you my purchases at the market at Knit Camp, yes I now I did the stand from Joan (White Lies Designs) but you know me..... I always find time to get me some pretty yarns/buttons :)
These buttons I found at the stand of www.TextileGarden.com and oh my.... what a gorgious buttons they have, I had a hard time deciding which ones I wanted. But the lady assured me they ship international (oops, yet again a place where my money just needs to go) Well see for yourselves

I also bought some beautifull gotland sheep yarn at www.blackerdesigns.co.uk It was actually one of my students who told me to go and get some (thanks Jane!!) and I do love the natural fleece colors.

This one is curretly being tested and tech-edited, it's made with EasyKnits Bamboo-Merino mix and I really enjoyed knitting with it. I'm glad I ordered lots of it for in my knitting kits ;)

Knit Camp Memories

And I'm back home......

Actually I came home sunday evening after a wonderfull week, where I met so many lovely people, laughed so hard I nearly p###d my pants, I teached (yeah, I know), I learned and made friends for live. This week left me with a totally fried brain (thanks to Woolly and Norah, you can blame them for my next designs which will involve cables and lace, fully reversible)

I finally met Jon and Roy in Real Life (guys I miss you allready)

So I'll start at the beginning, I was terrified to travel all by myself and be away for a whole week without DH and the kids, but I knew that when I finally left it would be okay. At the airport I met a very sweet lady who also went to Knit Camp, so we traveled together.

Monday night there was a nice dinner and I met Jo and Doug who were organizing this event (thank you for that), first question Jo asked me was if I could take over a class on Tuesday. I had some doubt but also some wine.....

It was one of those things where everything turned out far better then I anticipated. I loved my students who were a great sport about having me as a teacher for 6 hours (without handout or preparation), and I wasn't the one they signed up for (seriously who can replace her) So I took Carol's advice, to only teach what you know. I know, obviously, but it is a good thing to keep saying it to yourself when you stand in front of a class without any preparation :)

Tuesday evening there was a pub quiz (Go Team Loose Ends!!!!) and we came in third because we didn't think of knitting with the Eifeltower :)

Wednesday morning I followed a class with Wooly Wormhead: Reversable cables and she totally f####ed up my brain, luckaly it was Stitch and Bitch at the union and we just went to drink, knit and chat

Thursday morning I had a class with Joan McGowan from White Lies Designs: Vintage Knitting. She is a great teacher, not to mention very sweet. In the afternoon I had a class with Norah Gaughan: innovative cables (anotherone to blame for a f####ed up brain, lol) so I had no choice to just take the boys and Sarah Jane (shumke, who did a great, great job in trouble shooting this week) to the pub only to find Carol and Wooly there too.

My Fridaymorning class was supposed to be designing the next greenjeans... by Amy Singer. but she didn't make it to Stirling, so instead we had Zoey (is that the correct way to write your name, please drop a line) Editor from Yarn Forward and Crochet Inside, let's just say that it was very interesting :)

Friday afternoon was the most fun class, cause Jon taught me how to do a toe-up sock :)By now I was really having a need for some proper food instead of the stuff they served at Haldane's (university food, need I tell you more...) So Pappa Joes it was pizza with champagne....you got to love that :)

Because Joan had to teach on Saterday (re-scheduled from Tuesday) I volunteerd to work her booth for her, and I had a great time, watching all those people come by, and probably the only day I got time to do some knitting on my own project. We were all too tired to go anywhere else so we just had dinner at the bar, what turned out to be the most fun evening when we tried to explain the bartender how many knitting goeroes were sitting in his bar :)

My taxi didn't come to pick me up before 1 the next day, so I had time to have some tea with Joan before I left for home. And now.... I'm back for 2 days and I have a hard time to keep up with my sketches, my pencil just doesn't move as fast as I want it to. Lots of ideas, now I only need my brain to function again........

Counting the days/Het aftellen is begonnen

Only 6 days to go and I'll be in Stirling, Scotland...Knit Camp :) It will be strange, a full week without DH and the kids, with only knitting, fiber and finally meeting some peeps in Real Life.
And best of all (for me at least) I'm not going to work/teach but only for 'fun'
Jo and her team did a wonderful job organizing it all, and managed to get a lot of great teachers from all over the world. You can imagine that it was difficult to choose from all those classes, but I managed :)

The last few weeks I've been busy organizing for this week, but the kids and DH are taken care off, I bought a new laptop to take with me, found a solution for the internet connection so I can keep you all updated and now it's time to prepare for the classes.

Nog 6 dagen te gaan en dan zit ik in Stirling, Schotland....Knit Camp :) Dat zal vreemd zijn zo'n hele week zonder lief en kinders, met alleen maar breien, garens en eindelijk mensen in het echt zien. Maar het allerbeste (voor mij dan) is dat ik niet ga om les te geven maar alleen voor de 'fun' Jo en haar team hebben een geweldig evenement georganiseerd met mensen van over de hele wereld. Je snapt wel dat het erg moeilijk was om te kiezen uit zoveel leuke workshops, maar het is me uiteindelijk wel gelukt :)
De afgelopen weken ben ik druk bezig geweest om alles voor thuis te regelen, maar voor lief en de kinders word gezorgt, ik heb een nieuwe laptop gekocht om mee te nemen, vond een oplossing voor de internet connectie zodat ikjullie allemaal up todate kan houden en nu is het tijd om me te gaan voorbereiden op mijn workshops

In de achtertuin ben ik wat Evilla strengen aan het opwinden tot bal, vindt ik heerlijk om te doen erg rustgevend.

Hoorn

Yesterday was busy but fun day. I went together with Anne to Hoorn in the north of the Netherlands (177 km from Helmond in the south) To participate at a craft fair. I had to get up much earlier then normal (4:30 AM) But I was so excited that I had no problems with it at all (yesterday that is, today is a completely other story, lol) There enough visitors, so that was good, however I do think that when they organise this on a weekend day there would be so much more people. We had the best spot ever: right in front of him I don't know how many people I send into his shop to buy the same needles as I have (knit pro harmony), because Anne's knitting was lying around. Everybody was very interested in how to knit on circulars. At the end of the day we had some time to chat and take a look at his store...all I can say is WOW. So much lovely yarns together.....did I already say he also imports Koigu.....Unfortunatly I promised DH that I would not bring back home more then what I was leaving with in the morning.... So I bought 2 skeins of Araucania Lonco Multy a 100% mercerized cotton, and I already know what I would like to make with it :) (That will be for the spring/summer collection 2011) and 3 80cm knit pro cables, cause....well you never have to much of them :)

Gisteren was het een drukke maar leuke dag. Samen met Anne ben ik naar Hoorn geweest voor een weversmarkt. Ik moest heel wat eerder opstaan dan ik gewend ben (half 5) Maar ik was zo opgewonden dat het me geen enkel moeite kostte en ik heb er de hele dag geen last van gehad (vandaag is een heel ander verhaal....) Er waren genoeg bezoekers, al denk ik dat als ze dit zouden organiseren op een weekenddag dat het veeeeel drukker zou zijn geweest. We hadden een geweldige plek, recht voor de deur bij hem. Ik weet niet hoeveel mensen ik zijn winkel heb ingestuurd om knit pro naalden te kopen, lol, met dank aan het breiwerk van Anne dat op de kraam lag. Echt iedereen wilde weten hoe je op rondbreinaalden moest breien. Nadat we alles hadden ingepakt en we klaar waren voor vertrek, hadden we even de tijd om in zijn winkel rond te kijken. Het enige wat ik kan zeggen is WOW. Wat verschrikkelijk veel mooie garens bij elkaar....en hij importeert ook nog Koigu!..... Helaas had ik DH beloofd dat ik niet met meer thuis zou komen dan waar ik 's ochtends mee was vertrokken....dus mijn enige aankopen waren 3 extra kabeltjes van 80cm en 2 strengen Araucania Lonco Multy een mooie 100% gemerceriseerde katoen in prachtige kleuren, en ik weet al wat ik ervan ga maken :) Jullie moeten nog even wachten het is pas voor de Lente/Zomer collectie 2011.

Origanally I would share the 2 tables with Alet but she wasn't feeling well. I did take her lovely Landscape dyes with me, though I don't know anything about dying yarn (did get a crash course in the phone the day before, lol), what leaded to very interesting discussions with some of the customers, always ending with me saying: call her, while handing over her business card :)Because we needed now 2 tables to fill, we layed out all the samples instead of hanging them, which was a great succes. It showed the pattern so much better especcially on the bright green sheets :) (I do love bright colors) Here's an impression.

Oorspronkelijk zou ik 2 kramen delen met Alet maar zij voelde zich niet zo lekker. Ik had voor haar wel haar hele mooie Landscape verf meegenomen, hoewel ik dus echt niks afweet van garens verven. Alet had me de dag van te voren even een spoedcursus gegeven aan de telefoon, wat wel leidde tot erg interesante gesprekken aan de kraam. En iedere keer eindigde zo'n gesprek met de woorden bel haar maar, terwijl ik Alet's visitekaartje overhandigde, lol. Omdat we dus 2 kramen moesten vullen heb ik alle voorbeelden plat op de kraam gelegd in plaats van ze op te hangen. Dit zag er zoveel beter uit dat ik dit vaker ga doen. Het patroon was zoveel duidelijker zichtbaar, vooral op dat lekkere felgroen :) Hier is een impressie van de kramen

That's the name of my new Dutch website! I will be selling my printed patterns, knitting kits (obviously...) and some nice yarns. Voor de oplettende lezer: er hingen in de kraam een aantal tassen met Breipakket.nl. Is dat niet een pakkende naam? Het is de naam van mijn nieuwe Nederlandstalige website! Je kunt daar dadelijk mijn geprinte Nederlandstalige patronen kopen, breipakketen (Natuurlijk...) en wat mooie garens. Engelstalig kan ook geleverd worden, daarvoor moetje even een mailtje sturen of een opmerking plaatsen bij je bestelling. Ik ben nog steeds bezig met alles op de site te zetten maar ik verwacht binnen nu en een paar weken dat alles werkt. Kijk hier maar eens en vertel me wat je ervan vindt (zijn de foto's duidelijk/groot genoeg enzo)

Which brings me at the following, I would like to know what to do with my blog. I'm changing my websites (both DutchKnittingDesign and Breipakket.nl) to Wordpress which means I can host the blog on the site instead of having it seperatly on blogspot. I now blog everything both in English and in Dutch. What would you as readers like more? Should I split them up, the English version on Dutch Knitting Design.com and the Dutch on Breipakket.nl? Or should I continue to keep the English and Dutch versions together and just post them on both websites? I will leave eventually blogspot because I would like to have all my data on my own server. Wat me tot het volgende brengt, ik wil graag weten wat ik moet doen met mijn blog en daar heb ik jullie hulp bij nodig. It came!! I bought the PDF with print version, so I'm already at page 90. It's a wonderfull book with lot's of info if you want to become a knitwear designer. I just downloaded blogpress to my iPhone to see if it is easy to use for blogging. I can type in landscape mode with 2 fingers so it's going a bit faster then using twitter. But most of all I'm hoping that this app will make that I'll blog more often. Especcially in August when I'll be attending Knit Camp!!!! I hope that I can use this app for all your pleasure. Ik heb net Blogpress ge upload naar mijn iPhone om te kijken of dit makkelijk in gebruik is. Ik kan hiermee in landscape mode typen met 2 vingers dus het gaat al sneller dan met twitter. Ik hoop dat het met deze app het makkelijker voor me word om regelmatiger te gaan bloggen. Vooral omdat ik in augustus naar Schotland ga een hele week Knit Camp!!!!! Hopelijk kan ik deze app dan gebruiken om jullie op de hoogte te houden. As you all have noticed, I wasn't a good blogger this last month. After the craft fair there were lots of things to do and some tough decisions were made. Not only for my design business but also in our personal life. I wanted to expand my business but it's also very clear to DH and me that we need more help with our kids. As most of you know we already have some help for DS and since he his going to a special school, he's feeling much better. The past 3-4 month I spend lots of time to arrange help for DD2 and DD1. And Yeah! Last week the final letter came. DD2 can start in September at the same school DS is going. In the same week I had a long, long talk with someone from Youth Care, and she agreed on the assistance we asked for. So all good news, so good that my body thought: well time for some rest..... This last week I slept more then I slept for months, I even fall asleep while knitting.....I have lots to talk about with you all, so I'm going to try and blog some more :)

Zoals jullie allemaalwel gemerkt hebben,ben ik de laatste tijd niet zo'n goede blogger geweest. Na de Markt van Wol Enzo, waren er een hoop dingen die gedaan moesten worden en er moesten flink wat lastige beslissingen genomen worden. Niet alleen voor mijn werk maar ook persoonlijk. Ik wil graag mijn zaken uitbreiden maar het is voor zowel DH als mij ook duidelijk dat we meer hulp nodig hebben met de kinderen. De meeste van jullie weten al dat DS naar Speciaal Onderwijs gaat en sinds hij daar naar school gaat zit hij veel beter in zijn vel. De afgelopen 3-4 maanden heb ik voornamelijk doorgebracht met het aanvragen van speciaal onderwijs voor DD2 en voor PGB's voor DS, DD1 en DD2. En hieperdepiep!! Vorige week kregen we de brief binnen dat DD2 in September kan beginnen op dezelfde school als DS. Dezelfde week had ik een heel lang gesprek met iemand van Jeugdzorg die zich kan vinden in de hulp die we aanvragen. Dus allemaal goed nieuws, zo goed dat mijn lichaam dacht: tijd voor wat rust..... De afgelopen week heb ik meer geslapen dan in de maanden hiervoor, ik val zelfs in slaap tijdens het breien......Maar ik heb genoeg stof om over te bloggen, dus ik ga mijn best doen :)

I'm very busy to get ready for the craft fair I'm organising with Alet from Textielwerk.

I translated all Noro patterns into Dutch, made a small booklet with the used technics and bought some yarn. Yeah for knitting kits! Here's a taste of what I'm going to sell at Ouderkerk. De knitting kits will cost 27.50 euros. Unfortunatly the yarn I ordered at Easy knits isn't in yet due to family issues (unfortunatly for the family not the order) But he! Then you all have something to look forward to in Hoorn on June 30th. The new Dutch site will go live on monday, not yet with shoppingcart but that'll come soon

Ik heb het erg druk voor de Markt van wol enzo die ik samen met Alet van Textielwerk organiseer. (Hier is de link van die website, zodat je kunt zien wie er oa komen). My last blog post was also about finding cool stuff. Here are 2 My very first things I ever knitted; this scarf and hat for DS when he was a newborn. This made me feel very sentimental, he just celibrated his 10th birthday. Wauw, time do flies by.....
Een van de vorige postings ging over het vinden van leuke spullen, dat krijg je als je een keer opruimt, lol. Hier zie je een foto van de 2 allereerste dingen die ik gebreid heb: een sjaaltje en muts voor DS, die inmiddels zijn 10de verjaardag heeft gevierd. Tjees, wat gaat de tijd toch snel....

And I also found this little cardigan my mom made for me when I was little.

En ik vond nog meer, een gehaakt vestje dat mijn moeder gemaakt had voor me toen ik klein was.

Testing how this works, I downloaded a free trial version of Wondershare Dvd builder to make a slideshow of Althea pics. Formated it to Avi, then uploaded it to flickr. Let's see if it will work on my blog too :)

So when you sort out your mess you sometimes find cool stuff :) Aglaranna was a submission a few years back, it was accepted but I rejected their offer. Feeling a bit pissed I tossed it in a bin and forgot all about it....Until I recently cleaned up my stash. I looked at it and I still liked the design so what the heck.... I'm going to finish it this month and publish it myself :) It's made from Summer Tweed by Rowan

Als je af en toe eens opruimt, vind je nog eens wat :) Aglaranna was een inzending voor een tijdschrift en was geaccepteerd maar uiteindelijk heb ik hun offer afgeslagen. Nijdig heb ik het ergens in een bak gegooid en was al snel vergeten dat het bestond.....Totdat ik onlangs mijn voorraad wat aan het opschonen was. Ik vind het nog steeds een mooi ontwerp dus.....Ik ga het dezemaand afmaken en dan publiceer ik het lekker zelf :) Het is overigens gemaakt van Summer Tweed van Rowan

A few months ago I ordered some yarn at Easy Knits one of those yarns was a 100% BFL color Swamp thing. I was very pleased that the color was even more beatiful then seen on the screen. I inmediatly had an idea what to make with it....but I hesitated thinking it was to easy....so I swatched, swatched and swatched until I finally made the swatch as I first intended....and: wauw yep, that's it, I mumbled, sitting on my couch.What did you say? said DH. And I replied; well I should've known better not to listen to what the yarn is telling me.....

Well tell me, did I do it right?

Een paar maanden geleden had ik wat garen gekocht bij Easy Knits en een van die garen was een 100%BFL in de kleur Swamp Thing. Ik wasergblij omte zien dat dekleur in het echt nog mooier was dan op een computerscherm.Ik wist meteen wat ik ervan zou willen maken.....maar ik aarzelde toch een beetje denkend dat het idee wat ikhad te simpel was....dus proeflapje na proeflapje na proeflapje totdat ik uiteindelijk toch maar een proeflapje maakte van het eerste idee....En...wauw, zie je wel, mompelde ik. Wat zei je? zei DH Mijn antwoord:Oh dat ik gewoon moet luisteren als het garen tegen me praat.....
Nou vertel het maar, heb ik goed geluisterd?

When I first saw this yarn at the craft fair in Zwolle I fell in love with the colors, I already made Althea from the same yarn and I thought the yarn was also perfect for a summer top....BUT.... I bought only 1 skein...would that be enough?

Calculation after calculation....It would be a close call.

I started the lace pattern on size 3.75mm to get some more lenght and drape for the lower part of the body and used 3mm needles for the rest of the body. To save some yarn I crochet 6 straps instead of knitting them. I also made a straight back to save some more yarn. I also knitted faster and faster to the end of the project, cause you all know that that saves yarn, LOL.

I ended up not using all the yarn, I had 5 grams left :) Still I was anxious...did I meassure it correctly? Would it fit after blocking? Well see for yourselves!

Now it's time to appologize for the crappy IPhone pics, I promise to make better pics soon :)

Toen ik de eerste keer dit garen zag op de handwerkbeurs in Zwolle werd ik helemaal verliefd op de kleuren. Ik had van hetzelfde garen al Althea gemaakt en vond dat dit garen ook perfect was voor een zomertopje....MAAR....ik had maar 1 streng gekocht....zou dat genoeg zijn? Berekening na berekening....het zou er om spannen.Ik begon met het ajourpatroon op naald 3.75 om wat meer lengte en soepel weefsel te krijgen voor het onderste gedeelte van het lijfje, voor de rest gebruikte ik naald 3mm. Om wat garen te besparen haakte ik de 6 bandjes in plaats van ze te breien.Om nog meer te besparen maakte ik een rechte rug. En natuurlijk ging ik tegen het einde van het project steeds sneller breien want dat schijn ook garen te besparen, LOL. Uit eindelijk hield ik nog 5 gram over :) Maar nog steeds zenuwachtig...klopte alle berekeningen wel? Zouhet wel goed passen na het blocken? Nou kijk zelf maar!

Oke nu is het tijd om even sorry tezeggen voor de waardeloze IPhone foto's. Ik zal snel mooiere foto's maken, beloofd! :)

How knitting keeps me sane

First let me appolagize for not blogging lately..... It seems like all I do lately is talking with teachers and social workers. It's nice that we qualify for some extra care, but are all those forms necessary....? Why do I have to fill out the same form every year....lot's of info doesn't change in 1 year (or 2, or 3....or ever) and the worst part.....I can't see where this ends.
The forms for extra care at home are all filled in, now we have to wait 2 months before we'll here if we qualify. School is another, but very much the same story, except that we now need to wait until school fills in all the forms.....let me tell you a little secret...I'm not patient.... at all....so while I wait, I knit and knit and knit.......I finished 2 secret projects, a summer top and almost ready with a little cardigan. This keeps me focused on the good things about my kids, cause filling out forms with their disabilaties isn't much fun. So knitting keeps me thinking on how sweet DD2 looks when she's listening to her mp3-player, singing and dancing on music only she can hear. DD1 who walks more on her hands then on her feet, and DS who asks me every morning if I slept well that night. Filling out forms and talking to people about what they can't do is hard cause you easily forget what they can do. To sit and knit gives me some reflection time and patients so I can deal with irritating teachers and other people without hitting them :) Though sometimes I think it would solve a lot, lol.

Okay stepping of soapbox here :) And to make you feel better some knitting pics from the little cardigan I'm making.

Allereerst,sorry dat ik zo weinig heb geblogd de laatste tijd.....Het lijkt wel of ik alleen nog maar gesprekken voer met leraren en hulpverleners. Heel fijn dat we voldoen aan allerlei eisen voor meer hulp thuis, maar moet dat nou al die ellenlange formulieren? Enwaarom moet ieder formulier ieder jaar weer helemaal opnieuw ingevuld worden. Het meeste van die info verandert niet in 1 jaar (of 2, of 3....of ooit) En het ergste....ik zie er geen einde aankomen.De formulieren voor de PGB's zijn ingevuld, nu mogen we 2 maanden wachten of het word toegewezen. School is eigenlijk hetzelfde verhaal, alleen moeten we wachten totdat de schoolalles heeft ingevuld.....zal ik een klein geheimpje verklappen.....geduld is niet echt mijn sterkste kant :)....Dus terwijl ik wacht en wacht, brei ik heel wat af. 2 Geheime projecten zijn afplus een zomertopje en ik ben bijna klaar met een vestje. Dit gebrei zorgt ervoor dat ik wat meer kan relativeren en dat ik weer blij naar mijn kinderen kijk, zoals DD2 aan het dansen en zingen is met haar mp3 op, DD1 die meer op haar handen loopt dan op haar voeten. En DS die iedere morgen begint met vragen of IK wel goed heb geslapen. Door al die formulieren en gesprekken die er alleen maar op gericht zijn wat ze allemaal niet kunnen,vergeet je al snel wat ze allemaal wel kunnen. Breien zorgt voor zelfreflexie en geduld, zodat mijn batterij weeris opgeladen om al die irritante mensen weer te woord te staan zonder te gaan slaan :) Al denk ik soms wel eens dat sommige problemen daarmee wel opgelost zouden zijn, lol

Craft fair Zwolle/ Handwerkbeurs Zwolle

The craft fair is over for this year, and it was delightfull to meet everyone. On Friday it was so so so crowded that there was no time to talk with anyone. But Sunday afternoon it slowed down and I got a chance to buy some yarn myself :)

De handwerkbeurs is weer voorbij en het was heerlijk om iedereen te zien. Vrijdag was het zo druk dat er nergens tijd voor was. Maar zondag middag werd het wat rustiger en kon ik wat voor mijzelf kopen :)

We had a great time in here in France :) Now it's time to get back to work again,so I'msitting in my chair on a Sunday morning, editing patterns, printing them and getting them ready to ship. Only 5 days before the craft fair in Zwolle.....to be there is icing on the cake :) Designing is for the most part a very solitary job, don't get me wrong I like that part :) but meeting all those friends you only see on Ravelry is so much fun....can't wait....:)

Shawl to Dye For

Meet Ronica

Ronica is worked from side to side and is easy adjustable for women of all sizes. It's worked in an easy pattern of Stockinette and Garter stitch using a (satin) ribbon as closure. Using short rows for shaping but without the wraps, to make the holes to thread the ribbon through. This project is perfect for an advanced beginner to make.

Materials
Yarn: 349 yds/320m bulky weight yarn. Sample shown in Fjord from Lammy Yarns (50% wool, 40% acrylic, 10% alpaca).

Just arrived, bougt at Etsy. Some gorgious 100% organic Alpaca 200 yards in a dark grey and 100 yards in a warm dark green. And it told me allready what it wants to become. Oh howI love it when yarn speaks to me, though there are times I need my stash to shut up. Otherwise I would only start stuff and never finish:)

Net aangekomen,gekocht op Etsyeen 100% organic alpaca garen. 185 meterin donkergrijs en een 92 meter in een warme donkergroene kleur. En het heeft me al verteld wat het graag zou willen worden. Heerlijk vindt ikhet als garen tegen me praat, al heb ik soms momenten wanneer ze wel hun mond dicht moeten houden anders zou ik alleen maar beginnen met maken en ze nooit afmaken :)

Yes really....I mean it.....I did not only knit shawlettes....really....I did.... Look proof
Knitted with 2 strands of Carezza Angora on size 11 needles and I finished it 3 minutes before midnight on new years eve..... I told myself I couldn't cast on for Alyssum unless this one was finished :) And knitting with Noro is temptation enough to hurry...

Nee echt...Ik meen het.......Ik heb niet alleen maar shawlettes gebreid.....echt waar....kijk maar hier is het bewijs. Gebreid met 2 draden angora tegelijk op naald 8 en klaar 3 minuten voor 12 op oudejaarsavond......Ik had mezelf beloofd dat ik pas mocht beginnen met Alyssum als deze af was :) en breien met Noro is verleiding genoeg om op te schieten...

And ofcourse designing and knitting in 2010 just goes on :) and the first Shawl for the 10 shawls in 2010 group is finished. I called it Alyssum and it took only 1 skein of Noro Silk Garden Sock. And I love it!!!! The yarn is fantastic, you keep on knitting cause you want to know which color comes next, and one skein is enough for a decent shawlette.

En natuurlijk gaat het ontwerpen en breien in 2010 gewoon door :) De eerste shalw voor de 10 shawls in 2010 groep is klaar. Ik heb haar Alyssum genoemd en ik had er slecht 1 bol Noro Silk Garden Sock voor nodig. En het is geweldig!!! Het garen is fantastisch,je blijft maar doorbreien om te zien welke kleur er nu weer komt en 1 bol is genoeg voor een fatsoenlijke maat shawl.

Do I.... do I really have to look back and talk about 2009, I know that it's quit common in blogland to do so, but I rather look forward. Though I did had some milestones in 2009. Okay a quicky then.....:)

Milestone 1: Santeney got published by Knitty.com in their spring issue

Milestone 2: The Lace Colletion published all by myself with the help of dear friends (you know who you are!!! SS and MonB and all testers:)

Milestone 3: Wholesale accounts, the LYS think my patterns are worth selling:)

So now I'm done:) My biggest achievement this year was learning how to combine work with home. it did not always go smooth, but I learned to don't asl too much of myself and others. And sometimes you can ask for some help :)

Moet het.....moet het echt....? ik weet dat het in blogland heel normaal is om terug te kijken op het afgelopen jaar, maar ik kijk eigenlijk liever vooruit. Al had ik best wat hieper-de-piep moment in 2009....nou oke dan snel.....:)

Zo ik ben klaar :) Maar alle gekheid op een stokje. Ik heb een hoop dingen geleerd dit jaar met name op het gebied van het combineren van werk en thuis. Dat verliep niet altijd even soepeltjes,maar je leert om niet teveel van jezelf te verlangen en ook niet van anderen (doh) En soms kun je ook gewoon om hulp vragen :)

Vivacia can be worn as a capelet in the version I made, or if you keep repeating the pattern, it becomes a shawl to snuggle into on cold evenings. I wanted to design something that only needed 1 skein of Noro to celebrate their wonderful use of color.

Gauge: 19 sts and 28 rows = 4 in /10 cm in garter stitch.
Sizes: directions are given for 1 size, sample is: 32.3 in/82 cm wide and 15 in/38 cm long at center You can make this shawl any size you’d like, just keep on working the 4 rows of the body until you have just enough yarn to work the ending.

And before you know it it's allready january 5th, the last few days I spend on the internet finding a nice place to spend a few days on vacation, didn't really found something and the things I found were ridiculous expensive....:( Finally decided on a bungalow park in France for a few days with an enormous swimming paradise.....hey, if the kids enjoy themselves the more we can knit/read :) So I booked and I could go back to my normal routine of knitting :) Before I'm going to tell you what I've been upto here are the prize winners for this month!!!!

En voordat je het weet is het alweer 5 Januari. de afgelopen paar dagen heb ik doorgebracht aan mijn computer om een leuke vakantiestek te vinden voor een paar dagen, niet echt wat gevonden, en de dingen die we leuk vonden waren zo achterlijk duur.......laat maar :( Uiteindelijk besloten we om maar iets te huren voor een paar dagen bij een bungalowpark in Frankrijk met een achterlijk groot zwemparadijs.......He, als de kinderen het naar hun zin hebben, des te meer kunnen wij breien/lezen :) Dus geboekt en kon ik eindelijk weer terug naar de dagelijkse gang van breien :) Voordat ik jullie ga vertellen wat iknog meer allemaal heb gedaan....eerst de prijswinnaars van deze maand

Well this is a time for presents isn't it? So I ordered me some knitting bags here But you'll also need something to put into those bags, he.....:) Okay I'm giving you the url to this site, but use it at your own risk!!! They have an excellent service and only Noro (stop drooling...., lol). I ordered mine on dec 21th and got it today (Dec 30th) Just in time to start my first shawl for the 10ShawlsIn2010 Group on Ravelry :)

I keep on finishing stuff. This one is made from a bulky yarn I've had in my stash for, well, I don't know how long :) Yes I know I have to much stash. But I gave more then 3/4 of my stash away this year. I thought of selling it through e-bay or marktplaats (a dutch site) but didn't in the end. cause it just is to much of a hassle to do. So I invited some friends and told them to choose and take it with them....It was very much fun to see all of them, drooling like kids in a candy store :)

But they left some for me and I made this capelet with it. It was a very quick knit, perfect as variation (I only had wips on size 3-4mm needles) The pattern is ready for testing and is send to my tech-editor. So yet another one almost ready to be published :)

Ik blijf maar dingen afmaken. Deze is gemaakt van een dik garen wat ik al ik weet niet hoe lang in mijn stash had liggen :) Ja, ja ik weet het ik heb veel teveel stash. Maar het afgelopen jaar heb ik ongeveer 3/4 van mijn stash weggegeven. Ik had nog gedacht om het op marktplaats te zetten maar heb dat uit eindelijk niet meer gedaan vanwege al het getrut wat daar bij hoort. dus ik heb wat vrienden uitgenodigd en gezegd, veel plezier ermee, zoek maar uit wat je wilt hebben en neem maar mee.... Ik heb veel plezier gehad van het kijken hiernaar...net kinderen in een snoepwinkel :)

Maar ze hadden nog wel wat voor me overgelaten en daar heb ik dit capeje mee gemaakt. Het was een erg snel werkje en perfect als afwisseling voor al die wips die ik heb liggen voor naald 3-4mm Het patroon is klaar om getest te worden en ligt al bij de tech-editor. Dus alweer eentje bijna klaar om te publiceren :)
